What is the Ajwa date?
The Ajwa date is native to the Saudi city of al-Madinah. According to some traditions, the term "Ajwa" refers to a specific date palm variety from which Prophet Muhammad gathered his first date, as reported by scholar ibn Munzir in his work Lisan al-Arab. These black, sweet, soft, and frequently dry dates are delicious. These dates are petite and perfect for nibbling.
The date palm that produces Ajwa dates grows in Saudi Arabia. One of the world's oldest trees, it may grow up to 100 feet tall and 12 inches per year.
